The Hope for the Children project earlier fixed for Children’s day (May 27) was postponed till Saturday; the 30th.
B.N.Y.F members are students in tertiary institutions and were preoccupied with one School work or the other during the week but the 30th of May (Saturday) saw us visiting two orphanages in Lagos for the Hope for the Children project.
Even though some of our members couldn’t make it down, some were out of town; serving our dear nation Nigeria (on NYSC), those around met at the BRT bus-stop Iyana Ipaja, before moving together to the first Orphanage; Little Saints orphanage, located at Ekoro road, Abule Egba, Iyana Ipaja.
When we got to Little Saints at about 11:30am, the kids at the home were having a good time, celebrating one of their very own’s birthday.
Joining in the celebration, Better Nigeria Youth Forum (B.N.Y.F) had chats with the lovely children, donated gifts and our token to the children’s home. Then it was time to impact.
Usayn of B.N.Y.F took the little saints (who were girls/females) basic computer training.
Most of the kids already know what the Computer is, the training only served as a reminder to what a computer is and what a computer can do. Also, computers tricks and shortcuts were shared.
Even though electricity supply was cut off, we had to get diesel to power the generator and continue the class. It was a great class, with the girls all excited to learn a new thing.
Questions were asked, answers were given.
A little quiz was done after the training, with the girls answering correctly, getting gifts (motivational storybooks).
At about 2pm, we left Little Saints for Compassionate Orphanage.
At Compassionate Orphanage; located at Idowu Egba bus-stop, Isheri-LASU expressway, Lagos, the children were playing table tennis.
And trust the boys of Better Nigeria Youth Forum, we had it all coming. 🙂 But these kids were supercool, they did win our boys… 😀
We donated gifts and left at about 4pm.
In all, it was a great day for us.
We believe our little impact was felt.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived, it is what difference we have made to the life of others that will determine the significance of the life that we live’
